Educated at the New School of Architecture in San Diego and the Architectural Association in London, England. Currently, is the Herb Green Teaching Fellow at The University of Oklahoma, Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture. Rene is a member of the Board of Directors of Fundación Esperanza de Mexico. Rene is a co-author along with Fiamma Montezemolo, and Heriberto Yepez of the book Here is Tijuana, Black Dog Publishing, London 2006. He co-edited along with Tito Alegría and Roger Lewis, the commemorative edition of the book A Temporary Paradise: A look at the special landscape of the San Diego Region, published by COLEF in 2018 and prepared initially by Kevin Lynch and Donald Appleyard in 1974.
How does the region influence your art?
Rene’s work in the last few years has been directed toward the research of social and cultural forms of the urban border between the cities of Tijuana and San Diego. His practice searches for expedient and alternative methods in architecture and urban design alongside academia, NGO’s and government agencies.
